KWCOC Background

The Kingwood Church of Christ was established in 1972 in the home of current members John and Dalphene Bruton. Through the work in this community and the help of several sister congregations, KWCOC grew quickly and steadily, eventually migrating into an office building and then the Foster Elementary cafetorium. Blessed by God, the church purchased property and moved to its current location in the heart of Kingwood in 1975.

Even in those early days, the Kingwood church focused on touching lives both locally and abroad, being especially known for their support of orphans and missionary works in Thailand and Venezuela. Early leadership included current members W.T. Reynolds, John Bruton, and the late Floyd Campbell as elders, with our own Carl Power accepting a preaching position in 1975. Bob Ethington took the pulpit reins in 1991.

Today, while many of our members live in Kingwood proper, others live in several of the surrounding communities, including Atascocita, Humble, Porter, and Cleveland. The church currently has approximately 600 active members and is served by seven elders and 38 deacons. We also employ 4 ministers focused on preaching, youth, children, and worship, as well as 4 administrative support staff.

Over the years, the church has encountered significant and, at times, challenging transitions impacting leadership, membership, and facilities. But despite inevitable change, the one thing that remains the same is the desire to reach out to others with the Message of salvation and peace!

Mission

The overall mission of the Kingwood Church of Christ is to “Touch Lives with the Good News of Jesus.”

Vision

Our overall vision for the Kingwood Church of Christ is:

-That our foundation and inspiration are found in God alone through study of His Word, worship, fellowship with one another, and the power of his Spirit in us.
-That we, as members, prayerfully identify our gifts and talents for kingdom service and use them to carry on the mission of the church.
-That we intentionally reach out to everyone possible in our communities and chosen mission fields with the Good News.
-That we are a body where “touching lives” includes the strengthening of our families, the nourishment of our marriages, and the encouragement of our singles.
-That we continue to perpetuate an atmosphere of love, concern and forgiveness for each other by being truly involved in one another’s lives.
-That leadership is prayerfully open to God’s leading and bold enough to move forward with purpose and love to further the mission of the church.
