We believe God is the creator and ruler of the universe and eternally
exists in three distinct personalities—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—but
these exist as the one and only God. We believe that all scripture is inspired
by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for
training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
We believe that humanity was created in the image of
God. We do not believe a child is born sinful. We acknowledge that children are born into a
sinful world (Romans 5:12). As a result,
all of humanity has become guilty of sin (1 John 1:8). In order for us to be eternally reconciled to God,
God sent His one and only Son (John 3:16), Jesus Christ as the faultless lamb
and pure sacrifice to make atonement for sin once and for all (Hebrews 9:14)
for those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9).
We believe in baptism by immersion as an act of faith
symbolizing our surrender to Christ (Mark 16:16) and deliverance from sin by
God. In the same manner the Israelite’s immersion
into the Red Sea as part of their Exodus from Egypt was considered their
necessary baptism to escape slavery to the Egyptians (1 Corinthians 10:2;
Hebrews 11:29) so also, we must be immersed into Christ in order to escape
slavery to sin and live in righteousness (Romans 6:17-18). We continually nourish our relationship with
the Father and Jesus through prayer and Bible study.
We believe the primary function of the church is to be a
witness to Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).
It is not our job to judge people but to point them to Christ. We accept everyone unconditionally because
God loves us unconditionally. We love
all of humanity because Christ died for all of humanity (1 John 3:16).
We believe that Jesus not only nailed our sins to the cross
(2 Corinthians 5:21) but he also crucified the notion that obedience to rules
alone gives us access to God (Colossians 2:13-23). We believe that only through
Jesus we have access to God the Father (John 14:6) and that we access that
grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9).
We believe in loving our neighbors as we love ourselves
(Galatians 5:14). We do not believe
Jesus came to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them (Matthew
5:17). In doing so, Jesus removes
obedience to the Law as a requirement to gain access to the Father. Now, in Christ, our obedience to the Law of
Love flows out from a spiritual transformation that is empowered by an intimate
relationship with God. This is the work
of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:1-11). The
Holy Spirit lives in every Christian and provides understanding of spiritual
truth and guidance in doing right.
